With the rapid development in science and technology today, a wide range of contemporary culture developed, as the economic globalization, information and network information era are coming, painting is no longer the only way we record the reality. The appearance and development of photography technology "give birth to" the communication and the rise of popular culture directly, photography, television, film, digital imaging, computer graphics, and network video have filled every corner of people's daily life immediately. Today, we live in an era occupated by images and video, people's increasingly demands for images have become more and more critial. Surviving in such a rampant high-tech society, people uphold fast-paced lifestyle, images instead of text become the indispensable experiences of everyone. We have seen the unprecedented changes by the images of this era, and also have seen the blindness and loss when people face the overflow of images.As the people who are sensitive to the times of life, artists always react at the first time, whether shelves or racks demonstrate a clear trend of image. This change of idea has definitely brought tremendous impact on easel painting. In the development of contemporary paintings, paintings borrow the form of images to make contemporary arts more interactive, communicative and inclusive, this is a new connotation and extension of painting, the development of new technologies will inevitable bring new use of materials. Although the image painting, is a fast and effective art form after all, whether the cultural connotation implied in the picture and the artist's individual experiences can be accurate expressed are what we should concern about. This paper explains the contemporary paintings'impact of public image, analyses the status of image-based painting in the development of contemporary painting from the mass culture of social reality. As well as living in this information age, how to understand and regard the phenomenon of image in the contemporary paintings, and then analyses the significance for image-based painting to easel art and contemporary young artists.
