A Study Of The Linguistic Use Of Basic Chinese Color Words In White Deer Plain

The metaphorical meaning of vocabulary has its roots in people’s thinking and language,and mainly reflects a nation’s unique culture.However,barriers in cross-cultural communication are often caused by differences in the metaphorical meaning of vocabulary.As a part of vocabulary,the metaphorical meaning of basic color words is also difficult for non-native Chinese learners to master,but understanding the metaphorical meaning of basic color words is necessary to use basic color words correctly.Therefore,the metaphorical meaning of basic color words should be valued in the international Chinese vocabulary teaching.At present,the research on the linguistic ontology of basic color words in Chinese is becoming more and more specific and perfect,but the analysis of the metaphorical meaning of basic color words in combination with the text still needs to be explored in depth,especially in the context of the textual examples to present the linguistic value and metaphorical culture of basic color words,which is extremely important for the teaching of the metaphorical meaning of basic color words.Therefore,this paper takes the long novel White Deer Plain,which won Mao Dun Literature Prize,as the research corpus,and uses the statistical method to completely count the basic color words “white,black,red and yellow” in the whole novel,and classify them into simple color words and synthetic color words.The results show that the basic color words appear six hundred and sixty-eight times in the whole novel,and the proportion of synthetic color words in the text is about eighty-eight percent.In addition,the paper analyzes the folk culture of the basic color words by combining the language examples of the basic color words in White Deer Plain with the “conceptual metaphor” theory.At the same time,the basic color word “white” is used as an example,and the teaching is designed with the film clips of the basic color word in White Deer Plain.This will empower the teaching of the metaphorical meaning of basic Chinese color words.This paper explores in depth the pragmatic value of basic color words in White Deer Plain,making the metaphorical meaning of basic color words and their metaphorical culture more concrete,thus not only enriching the study of basic color words in Chinese and promoting the development of the language system,but also helping non-native Chinese learners to deeply understand the metaphorical meaning of basic color words in context,enhancing their ability to use vocabulary and cultural sensitivity.In this way,it can provide a reference for international Chinese vocabulary teaching.
