Teaching materials compilation is an essential part of Teaching of Chinese as a Second Language (TCSL henceforth).Currently, the Chinese characters'teaching materials compilation for Foreigners needs to be improved. Especially in the primary stage, the lag of the Chinese Characters' teaching materials compilation for Foreigners seriously restricts the development of Character teaching. Currently, the Character teaching in the primary stage mainly depends on integrated curriculum and uses reading materials. It is visible that character teaching is still in dependency status. Since character teaching lacks scientific and systematic instructions, character teaching is inefficient. This paper will select a representative reading materials of the primary stage and take" Chinese Reading Course" (Revised) (1,2)as a case study material. This paper will respectively study on the teaching contents of Chinese characters, the situation of new Chinese characters and the design of character exercises. Based on the research, we will analyze the course editing and find out the reasonable places and deficiencies. And then we will propose relevant thinking for the Chinese characters'teaching materials compilation in the primary stage.This paper is divided into five chapters:The first chapter is an introduction. This chapter includes the scope and value of the research, the current status of the study, the significance and methods of the research.The second chapter studies on Chinese characters'teaching content arrangement of the "Chinese Reading Course". First, we will give a description of the Chinese characters'teaching content, including Chinese characters knowledge and Chinese characters exercise design. Based on the research, we will analyze Chinese characters' teaching content arrangement.The third chapter studies on the new characters of the "Chinese Reading Course".We will make statistics on the new characters, give a description of the distribution of new characters and then research on the quantities and choice characters. First, we will compare the character list of Chinese Reading Course with that of the "Chinese Vacabulary and Character Grade Outline " (revised) and analyze the distribution of A, B, C and D characters.Second, we will compare 958 characters of Chinese Reading Course with 1000 characters (commonly used) in the "Basic Chinese Characters Table" and counts the strokes of some difficulty characters. Finally, we will find out characters'selection problems.The forth chapter studies on Chinese characters exercises of the "Chinese Reading Course". This chapter will focus on the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the characters exercises.We will make a survey on the evaluation of the Chinese characters exercises in the foreign students. First of all, we will study the amount of the characters'exercises in the course.Based on the statistics, we will compare the amount of characters'exercises in the course with that of independent characters' teaching materials and then find out some problems.Secondly, we will compare the types of the exercises with those in the independent characters'teaching materials and find out reasonable and adequate places. Finally, we will make an evaluation on the exercise.It includes grade evaluation and assessment of learners. As the evaluation of learners, we will design questionnaires.The fifth chapter proposes relevant thinking for the Chinese Characters'teaching materials compilation in the primary stage.Based on the researches above, this chapter finally proposes the general principles of Chinese characters teaching materials compilation in the primary stage, the introduction of Chinese teaching contents, the choice of the new characters, and the evaluation standards of the Chinese characters exercises in the primary stage.
