This paper is to study and get full awareness of Weng Fanggang's rigorous research spirit and his objective and rational research attitude, on the basis of Weng's Record on Stone Tablet and Bronze Inscription in Han Dynasty. Weng is a prominent scholar in Qianlong and JiaQing Period of Qing Dynasty, with outstanding contributions to Classic study, Poetics, Bibliography, Textual Research on Stone Tablet and Bronze Inscription and Calligraphy Art. As an epigrapher, he specializes in textual criticism and revising. Record on Stone Tablet and Bronze Inscription in Han Dynasty is his foundation works on the dynastic history of Epigraphic study. A comprehensive explanation of this book will be made in this paper by adopting the following study methods: Speculation, demonstration as well as compare and textual research. Therefore, this paper is an interpretation of the book and stele engraving as well as its profound influence in the field of epigraphy.This paper focuses on the interpretation of the key issues in this book in terms of calligraphy writing, thus differing from previous study that emphasizes in Ancient Classic revising. It begins from clarifying the aim and the research meaning of the paper. The second chapter is a brief introduction to the writer, the time background of this book writing, and the origin of its historical data. The third chapter focuses on his Book Study attitude. In the fourth chapter, first a summary of the Western Han stele is made, including tablet, inscription carved on cliff faces, ShiQue and portrait stone; then research into Chinese characters in the field of philology, and how engravers of that time was treated which is to be conducted on the base of the then cultural and social consciousness. The last chapter is a conclusion, in which the status of Record on Stone Tablet and Bronze Inscription in Han Dynasty in the field of epigraphy study and Weng's research attitude will be summarized. This paper, by interpreting this book from the viewpoint of Calligraphy and philology, is expected to a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the contents it covers, and to be of use for a further study of the theory and techniques concerning epigraphy.
