Yuanhe junxian tuzhi (briefly titled as Yuanhe Zhi in the later part of the essay),compiled by Li Jifu, Tang Dynasty, finished 813 AD, the 8th year of Xianzong, Tang Dynasty, is one of the nationwide general recordings existent until today.By statistical analysis, this essay conducts some statistics and analysis on the Zhen, Zhou,and counties in the era of Yuanhe, Tang Dynasty. Via verification analysis the administrative regions are verified and the life and experience of Li Jifu, the edition circulation of Yuanhe Zhi as well. by way of deduction, the style, the compiling features and the literature value of Yuanhe Zhi are also generalized in this paper.The paper is composed of five parts.Part one offers the enunciation of the research value, consequences and the current study of Yuanhe Zhi.Part two records some researches in such aspects as the author's life, the background, the style and the writing features of the book and the material resources. The book Yuanhe Zhi, compiled in the era of the national separation with the enormous worries nationwide, serves the political domination of Li's Tang Dynasty Emperor.In part three, the edition circulation process of the book is under research. The earliest carved edition of the book appeared in the 3rd year of Chunxi. The earliest edition seen nowadays is the hand-recorded edition recorded in Ming Dynasty. The most influential editions of the book Qing Dynasty are as following: the edition of"the Overall book of Siku", the edition of Wuying Pavilion, the edition of"the Serial book of Dainan Pavilion", the edition of"the Serial book of Jifu", the edition of"the Primary Collection of Serial Books", the editions of Jinling Press, in the 6th and 8th year of Guangxu, and three volumes of"the Anecdotal Collections of Yuanhe junxian zhi", among which the editions of Jinling Press, Qing Dynasty is Rare Books. the edition, corrected by He Cijun published by Chinese Press is the most popular ones currently.In part four, a further study on the administrative regions in Yuanhe era, Tang Dynasty is performed. To start with, the Tang's administrative system is expounded; then more specific administrative division researches are discussed in greater detail, esp. the administration division of 47 zhen reflected in the book of Yuanhe Zhi with the conclusion that Jingzhaofu and Henanfu should be reckoned with in the 47 zhen; finally, based on Hebeidao and with reference to"Hebei Provincial Recording"and"A Collection of China History Maps"and"China Maps Collection", a contrastive study of the counties'terms and their detachments present and past has been in discussion with a conclusion that, among 162 counties of Hebeidao, the names of 69 counties are still in use in the present.Part five gives a summary on the literature value of Yuanhe Zhi: the literature values both in the geographical study and in the population statistics. By statistics, among the existent 266 zhou in 34 volumes, 218 zhou record Kaiyuan population and Yuanhe population. On the presumption that statistics is conducted on the unit of zhen, among 36 zhen, only two zhen are involved in the increase of population and if the statistics is done on the unit of zhou, among 218 zhou, only 14 zhou are correlated with the increase of population.
