Vocational Gender Stereotype still exists in modern society. People may admit in words that women can make the same achievement as men in some areas, however, the traditional stereotype exists implicitly, and it directs people's daily thoughts and behaviors in an automatic way. In the process of socialization, Vocational Gender Stereotype exerts great influence on the psychological state of men and women. They often modify their behavior and career choices according to stereotype.Studies have shown that when a person works in an environment that he enjoys, he can maintain the efficiency and energy for a long time. That is because the work motivation can promote the performance and capability. Thus, vocational interest is not only a basic factor of career choice, but can also enhance the adaptability, satisfaction and stability in the future career of an individual. There will be 6.3 million college graduates in China in 2010, and it attracted wide attention that graduates have big difficulties in finding a job. An important issue that universities, society and the related departments are confronted with is to help the students find a job which matches both their own vocational interest and social needs, so their talent will be brought into full play. This paper firstly makes a brief review of theories and research about Vocational Gender Stereotype and vocational interest home and abroad. It then selects ten male-dominated professions and seven female ones by sorting out questionnaires and consulting classification table. The questionnaires are about college students'impression on Vocational Gender Stereotype. Basing on the Holland Chinese Strong Vocational Interest Blank compiled by Fang Liluo, it forms the College Students Vocational Interest Questionnaires. Next step is to conduct a survey of 292 students in both arts and science departments in Shandong Normal University. On the basis of the survey data and existing theory, the paper systematically analyses the present situation and the characteristics of the college students Vocational Gender Stereotype and Vocational Interest, and the dialectic relationship between the two. This study draws the following conclusions:1. Vocational Gender Stereotype does exist among college students, but has significant gender difference. Male students are more deeply influenced by it than female students.2. The effect of Vocational Gender Stereotype on the students majored in arts and science is not conspicuous. That is to say college students majored in both arts and sciences generally believe that boys are more fit for techniques while girls for service. The mutual effect of gender and the classification of arts and science are not significant.3. The vocational interest of college students is in the following order: social, artistic, enterprising, conventional, investigative, and realistic.4. Gender difference affects their vocational interest: More boys are of the realistic type while more girls are of the artistic type. Gender makes no difference in other vocational interest as social, enterprising, investigative and conventional.5. There is difference in vocational interest between students of arts and students of science: students of science are more interested in Investigative career than those of arts.6. College students'male-vocational stereotype has a significant positive correlation with the realistic and investigative vocational interest while it has a negative correlation with the artistic vocational interest.
