LingLi, as a writer of historical novels, occupies an important place in contemporary Chinese literature, especially in historical novels.During her four-decade writing carrer, the novel's themes, style, technique, particularly its discourse patterns not only show the consistency but also reveal considerable changes.The "Star Grass" (1981) standed for the peasant revolution discourse pattern, which appeared after the "Cultural Revolution". The author expressed inner anguish of "energies"by the means of writing revolutionary peasant hero. She would like to express her discontents, and encourage those who "knocked". The emphasis on the history facts suppressed and diluted the literary works of the novel, so it maked the discourse patterns seems monotonous and repetitive.The "Young Emperor" (1987) represented the reform discourse pattern. The author described the reformation of the ancient people in order to boost the reformation in real life. Cutting from the cultural and institutional aspects of the history, the author faced the human's inside. He focused on writing the fate of individual people, from peasant revolutionaries unidirectional to a more three-dimensional multi-faceted cultural reformer. This subverted the "Star Grass", which treated the "historical events" as the center, and constructed with "write people" form as the center of the reform discourse.The "West Side off River" (1998) represented the emergence of the discourse in the bottom. And it is the sign of the individuality and maturity of LingLi's novel. Basing on the age of globalization, the auther set the Opium War as the false background, and shift a fictitious opera actors into the center stage, and expressed the view of the historical events and figures by "dummy true". Besides, the anther expressed the grand theme of human harmony in the era of globalization. The pursuit of innovation and bold, the solid historical foundation and great accuracy of the write style, formed the change from the "human consciousness" to the"artistic consciousness"The "Northern Girl" (2008) was on behalf of the female discourse. Her discourse patterns not only reveals the consistency pursuit of time spirit, but also conveys the specific changes due to the spirit of the times, from the praise of a hero to the discussion of reform and human nature, to care about the underlying state of survival, as well as writing comprehensive feminist.
