In modern society, the using of metaphor is more and more important. And it also reveals great potential of development. In this essay, I am intend to present the discussing and trim of the metaphor which is widely used in modern graphic design, especially from the symbol point of view. At the mean while, I will also expound how the metaphor working weightily as a creative activity in modern graphic designs from the aspects of thinking, practices, and the researches from the literary and the rhetoric which are already existed.I will firstly review the survey research which is based on the historical research of western metaphor, especially with the point of Aristoteles's. And I will also contrast and demonstrate the developing processing from the originally proposal to advancing using in modern graphic design.Secondly, I will consult existent results to advancing the metaphor of graphics in order to present the process of symbols of metaphor. And from the angle of symbols, I will explain the basic concepts and basic characters which are contained within the modern graphic design. For the sake of promotion for modern graphic design, I will ulterior illuminate how the metaphor switchover concepts in modern design.At last, I will analyze how important the metaphor works in both illustrate expression and graphic designing.For the thinking of metaphor, people have already understood that it is a kind of ideation. But the research for the representation of metaphor is still fewness, especially from deeply researching of the symbol point of view. In this essay, I will strive for deeply analyzing the metaphor which is using for modern graphic designs.
