Translation,as a kind of cross-cultural communication, has played an increasingly important role in the process of globalization. It has been a hot topic at home and abroad. With the development of the times and the emergence of talents, translation theories have appeared continuously.In1971,Katharina Reiss firstly put forward the functional theories of translation——Skopos Theory, which takes the purpose of the text as the first norm in the process of translation. And in the functional school of translations studies,it is the most important theory. The Skopos Theory does not focus on the equivalence between the translation text and the source text. The translator should have an ability to choose appropriate translation methods for specific translation purposes. It breaks the traditional concept of equivalence and gives full play to the translator's subjectivity.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory, the translation report chooses some chapters of the book The General History of Global Science and Technology by Dr.Wu Jun to translate into English. This book connects the history from the perspective of science and technology, with energy and information as the two main lines, systematically states the evolution of human civilization since the emergence of homo sapiens. In the process of translation, the translator analyzes the key points and difficulties in the translation text based on the characteristics of informative texts.Skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule have been applied to the translation under the guidance of Skopos Theory.Combined with the specific cases of the original text, this report analyzes from two aspects of vocabulary and sentence,so as to adopt appropriate translation methods and achieve the purpose of accurately conveying the original text in cross-cultural communication. The translator reflects on the whole translation process and writes a translation report, carefully summarizes the problems encountered in the translation and the methods adopted. In this practice, the translator also accumulates experience and lessons, understands the Skopos Theory of translation deeply, and has a great impact on the translation activities.
