Effective teaching means that the teaching is meaningful and is in line with teaching rules. Effective teaching is fruitful, profitable and efficient. With limited input, its outcome is tremendous. The research into English effective teaching in university on one hand would enrich effective teaching theory, and on the other hand would provide some reference to the English teachers, thus they could enhance teaching quality, and finally they could realize the aim of nurturing excellent personnel. Effective English teaching in university should possess its typical characteristics. It should have proper goal. The teaching material should be meaningful. The organization should be scientific. There should be ample communication. The teacher should be passionate, confident, energetic and humorous. The teacher should also respect, trust, love and encourage the students. The teacher should make full use of the auxiliary teaching machines. It should promote the English language development, learning ability development and value development of the students. Objective factors that usually affect the effectiveness of English teaching in university mainly include the attention that the university pays to and the support it gives to the subject; the efforts that the students make and the cooperation and feedback that they provide; Subjective factors that usually affect the effectiveness of English teaching in university mainly refer to the teaching idea, knowledge, efficacy sense, teaching ability, characteristic and teaching wisdom of the teacher. In order to teach effectively, the English teachers in university may adopt effective preparation making strategy, effective in-class teaching strategy, and effective reflecting strategy. Effective preparation making strategy covers the aspects of getting to know the students well, collecting abundant data, making preparation together with colleagues, writing teaching scripts and trying pre-teaching performance. Effective in-class teaching strategy includes giving introduction, creating comfortable in-class atmosphere, lecturing, questioning, organizing activities, providing feedback, encouraging the students and making full use of modern auxiliary teaching machines, Effective reflecting strategy includes writing teaching summary, making full use of the feedback by the students, paying much attention to the suggestion by the colleagues and further learning.
