The Reconstruction And Revival Of Huating Temple In Kunming, 1920-1949

In the process of revival of the Chinese modern Buddhism, the Yunnan's Buddhism also had revived gradually from the decline. This sign was the reconstruction and revival of Huating temple. However, little peopel had hitherto studied this history of Huating temple. Considering this, the author takes the Kunming's Huating temple from 1920 to 1949 as the research object. Based on the achievements made by the scholars, the auther, by exploring historical material, made systematic and comprehensive study on the history of Huating temple.First, this thesis traces the history of Huating temple, analyzes the background and the process of Huating temple's reconstruction. We can enrich our understanding of the temple's layout, the hall configure, and the Buddhism tower etc., by discussing the style of the Architecture of Huating temple; Introduces the perfect stipulation which was set up by Hsu-Yun, including the rules of the abbot's election and daily, the management rules of temple estate, the criteria Buddhism ceremony and the rules of monks as well as analyzes the source of monks , the reasons why they become monks , the scale of monks,the job arrangement of monks and the famous monks; Through the particular statistics, the thesis hopes to explain the source of temple estate, the management situation and the consumption of monastery's income; Discusses the interaction between the Monks and the Ordinary people , including the friendly intercourse with the Yunnan's governors, the tensional relation with the surrounding villagers even initiatively attend the societal charity. These embodied the spirit of Buddhism in the humun life. Finally, this thesis summarizes the effects which the reconstruction and resurgence of Huating temple influenced in the process of revival of the Yunnan's Buddhism.
