There are more than 1200 higher vocational colleges in china. Every year over 3 million students which covers almost 60 percentage of the total come to these colleges to study. The higher vocational college students yet have distinct psychological characteristics which are different from other university students. Aesthetic education in higher vocational colleges are of greater importance.Music appreciation class is a main means for the aesthetic education so improving the teaching quality is particularly important. In chapter one of this paper, the author investigates the current situation of music appreciation in higher vocational colleges by means of questionnaires and interviews; in chapter two, the author investigate and analyzes the students'knowledge of music, music preference, learning motivation, music appreciation ability and orientation of music aesthetics ,aiming to cultivate students' correct music aesthetic standard.; in chapter three, the author talks about the practical value of the students' psychological status in music appreciation and raises some ways to improve the teaching effect of music appreciation class, aiming to improve the aesthetic education.
