The purpose of this paper is to study the problem about the selection of the supply chain partners, one of the most important aspects in the supply chain management field. In order to demonstrate the meaning of this study, the author gave the definition of supply chain, explained the meaning of supply chain management, and then the importance of selecting the partners in supply chain management in the introduction of this paper. In the second part, the author narrated the theories of transaction cost and value chain, which are related with this study. The third and fourth parts of this paper are the most important ones. In the third part about the selection of the supply chain partners?types, the author presented three types of the supply chain partners according to the standards of the specific investment and transaction frequency, the market-exchange partners, the non-strategic partners and the strategic partners. The author also provided the relevant methods to make decisions in the selection of partner types. The fourth part is about the criterias of supply chain partner selection. In this part, the author firstly analysed the findings of other researchers? then proposed his own viewpoint---establishing different criteria systems in the light of different partner types. In the last area of this part, the author described the different criteria systems in detail. In the fifth part, the author described several selection methods which are popular in the selection of supply chain partners today, and gave the recommendation about adopting selection methods on the base of different partner types. The conclusion of this paper is that the selection decision should include the selection of partner types, establishing different selection criteria systems based on the corresponding partner types and selecting different selection methods, according to the different products and different upper market condition.
