Research On Modern Metropolis Culture Construction

The construction of modem metropolis is a titanic social systematic project. In the early 1990抯, some domestic cites have in succession put forward the idea of constructing modem metropolis and have since attained great stage success. However, people notice that as a major component for the over-all construction of a metropolis, the development of culture has long been neglected in these cites. This omission has resulted in the adverse effect upon these cites in their long term development. Economy, politics, culture are the three basic factors for urban construction which jointly enhance the development of society through an interactive and inter-promoting manner. The development of culture is a means for social progress and also an end as well. A well-developed and sound modem metropolis should be a city not only advanced in the development of economy and politics, but also a city with prosperous culture life. While referring to successful experiences in urban construction of some advanced cites, this thesis dwells on the problem of culture construction. The thesis starts from the discussion of the significance of connotation and culture construction of a city and gives representations on relevant issues such as the special significance of culture construction in the building of a modem metropolis, the development of the cultural image of a city, and some relations which should be dealt with in an reasonable way in conducting cultural construction. Based on this, the thesis puts forward the idea that the decision-makers and administrators of the cities should attach adequate importance to culture construction., Especially for those cities who set their aims at building a modem metropolis, they should spare no efforts in developing their potentials and exploit their advantages of their cities, give a full play to the huge influence brought about by culture, and thus establish an impressive cultural image for their cities.
