| Yunnan as a frontier province and guided by the reform and open up policy in 1985, makes full use of its geographic advantage of connecting two big markets 梙ome and abroad and makes its frontier trade develop into an indispensable component of its social and economic life. This essay, based on the analyses of the domestic and foreign conditions of Yunnan's frontier trade development as well as its status ,makes some rational thinking about Yunnan's frontier trade development in the new era.This essay clarifies its point of views from three aspects. The first aspect analyzes the concepts of frontier trade and so on as well as the differences and connections between these concepts.It holds theoretical inquiry from some respect such as regiona economic unitization and the economic significance of frontier trade and then analyzes the social and economic significance of developing Yunnan's frontier trade.The second aspect analyzes Yunnan's unique condition to develop its frontier trade from its location condition, human condition, the general character and difference between resources and markets, the favorable circumstances and conditions, the present basic conditions and neighboring countries's attitude. It also analyzes the current situation of Yunnan's frontier trade from the scale of Yunnan's frontier trade, commodity structure, regional structure, major routes and places, developing stage and the existing problems. Based on above analyses, the essay puts forward some basicmeasures to solve the problems. These measures include strengthening and improving the legislation and management of frontier trade, promoting the construction of soft and hard environments, advancing the scale and grade of frontier trade, establishing international and regional economic cooperation, and seizing the opportunity of China's accession to WTO and exploration of west regions. The third aspect comes to a conclusion:Yunnan's frontier trade will have plenty of scope for its development in the new era. This essay analyzes theoretically the relationship between frontier trade and regional economic unitization from this angle of view梤egional economic unitization. Then it puts forward sub-regional-economic cooperation as the best choice for Yunnan and its neighboring countries to have economic and trade cooperation. In the practical study of developing Yunnan's frontier trade, this essay analyzes to the full the current situation and existing problems of developing Yunnan frontier trade, combining with China's accession to WTO, exploration of the west regions and the founding of the ASEAN. Frontier trade plays an important role in the nation's and Yunnan province's social economic life. It has great influence on the nation's safety. Frontier trade is centered on the low-cost consumable supplies and consignation trade. Its prosperity for a long time relies on the inland, which constitutes three remarkable characteristics of Yunnan's frontier trade. The development of Yunnan's frontier trade not only produces an important significance fate the whole nation's opening to the outside and the development of local economy, but also has wide influence on the country's safety and frontier's stability. In view of social, economic and strategic significance of Yunnan's frontier trade,it will be given all-out support by central and local government, so there will be plenty of scope for development in the new era. This essay makes some corrections of some scholars' lopsided views that most of Yunnan's frontier trade are barter trades of small quantities and that in the new situation of China'sIVaccesstion to WTO and ASEAN'S establishment, promising of Yunan frontier trade is pessimistic. By sysmatic analyses, on the basis of overall object analyses for Yunnan's frontier trade, combining with present international demestic situation, this essay proposes that in the development of new era, Yunnan frontier trade should stress to solve several problem's, which will provide some construction suggestions for Yunnan's frontier trade.
