Mechanical and electronic product trade is the most important composition of international visible trade. And mechanical and electronic industry is one of the biggest industries throughout the world market. The ability of mechanical and electronic product export could be used to measure the national economic strength. As a result,many industrial developed and developing countries all regard expending the export of mechanical and electronic products as an important strategic objective to develop their native economy. During the past ten years,the export of mechanical and electronic products in our country increased 30 percent every year,and its contribution degree of total export in the foreign trade over 110 percent every year. It has become the first category product in our foreign trade from 1995. In 1985,the proportion of mechanical and electronic product export in our country was 6.1 percent. When it came to 2001,the figure increased to 44.6 percent,and dramatically changed the situation that our foreign trade export had once over-relied on the primary products.Despite the good trend on export of mechanical and electronic products,there still have some negative facts that restrict the international competitiveness of mechanical and electronic products in China. Now the export management of mechanical and electronic enterprises is out of order and without effective competition medium. Technological transformations and loans of mechanical and electronic enterprises are still not satisfied the practical needs. In the export composition of mechanical and electronic products,the labor-intensive products rank in the first catalogue. In China,many mechanical and electronic products that export to international market did not have our own national brand.After China entered WTO,the international competitive environment of mechanical and electronic products will be different. Mainly,China will follow the foundation of market-oriented economy system and managed trade policy with which WTO had been based on and made function. WTO has provided a freely competitive and equally open market environment for mechanical and electronic products in the entire world. The unlocked circulation of capital and product trade throughout the whole world will largely promote the export of mechanical and electronic products and optimized configuration of mechanical and electronic-industry in China,hi the meanwhile,ourcountry could use some clauses to support infant mechanical and electronic industry.On the other hand,there still exit many negative aspects that restrict the promotion of international competitiveness of mechanical and electronic products after China entering WTO. First,with the reduction of tariff and non-tariff wall,the international competitive environment of mechanical and electronic products will be more and more severely. Second,some law terms in the active jurisprudence do not accord with the clauses of WTO. Third,since the development of mechanical and electronic industry in China has long been achieved under protective industry policy,if these policies are abolished after a short time the mechanical and electronic industry will face a formidable condition.If we want to promote the international competitiveness of mechanical and electronic products after China entering WTO,first we should define the inwardness of promoting the international competitiveness of mechanical and electronic products. That is to constitute a series of policies and product strategy in order to form the preponderant characteristic of mechanical and electronic products.
