Performance Management is a very important component of the Human Resource Management system. To establish a Performance Management System is a new direction for the initiatives of managing performance. It is the essential evidence for an enterprise to made decisions in human resources. It is an entirely new and critical task for all the Chinese enterprises to design and establish a performance management system which is applicable to China' s practical situation and which meets the needs for the enterprises to grow in today' s economic globalization. This paper starts from the basic theory of performance management, and in combination with the specific practice in performance management of Chengdu Dongfang Leishen Standard Electrical Equipment, makes an all-round study of the important roles of the performance management in the whole company management system.The first section introduces the basic theories of performance management. It deals with the theoretic aspects of performance management and concludes that performance management is based on system management theory. It also studies other related theories on performance management, such as objective theory, objective management theory and motivation theory, describing and expounding the definition, the content, the roles of performance management, and the components,the objectives and the limiting factors of the performance management system. This section is the theoretic foundation for the design of the Leishen company performance management system.Section Two reviews the history and the current status of Leishen Company. An analysis and examination of the current status of the company' s human resource management and performance management identifies the problems in the company' s management so that a proper and effective performance management system can be designed to tackle the problem.Based on the above two sections, Section Three designs the performance management system with the guidance of relevant theories and in connection with actual situation of the company.The forth section evaluates the efficiency of the performance management system and summarizes the problem of the system.As a consultant, I have presided over the work of designing of the performance management system for the Leishen Company. In the whole process, I have made an in-depth study of the fundamental theories on performance management and examined from the perspectives of system management the guiding roles of system theory, control theory and information theory. Moreover, I have studied how the objective theory and motivation theory can guide the performance management system. Meanwhile, I have analyzed the current status of the company' s human resources management and performance management. Based on the findings, I have designed the Leishen Company performance management system by applying the management theories. Throughout its execution, the performance management system has been further verified. Therefore, this paper is a valuable trial in combing theories with practice by using the knowledge from MBA courses.Although Leishan Company' s performance management system has madesome positive impacts during the actual implementation, it may still need more time to reveal its problems or disadvantages. So it is not possible that the paper have included all the potential problems of the system. China is just beginning to utilize performance management system. I will keep on studying new theories and applying them in my future work to improve my ability in performance management.
