Grain is the strategic material for the national development with the vital importance for the nation's economy and the people's livelihood, while grain production is the basic industry to guarantee the sustainable development of the national economy. In recent years, the grain security of China faces all-round challenges as the change of situation and the continous readjustment of agricuyltural policy. After China entered into WTO, the impact of free trade of agricultural products , world economic globalization as well as the changes of pattern of food supply and demand caused by the industrialization and urbanization. Under such a circumstance, the authors analyzed the developing history of grain industry, the current situation and challenges facing Guangxi grain production sector, identified the advantages, the potential and the restricted factors of Guangxi's grain production. Countermeasures and policy recommendations for promoting the grain production development are also put forwarded. In addition, fanner's behaviors and incentives for growing grain crops have been also investigated. The research shows that Guangxi still has relative high potential on high quality paddy rice, winter growing potatoes and non-rice and wheat food grains with the comparative advantage of the whole grain industry. Guangxi shall change the traditional "absolute grain security" strategy into developing local special products with high competitiveness in the national, regional (ASEAN) and global market. Strengthening the agricultural infrastructure, reducing the production costs and further increasing the productivity and farmer's income should be the major countermeasure to achieve the grain security in the autonomous region.
