It is just with the guidance of geopolitics that New China's geopolitical diplomatic strategies had witnessed a conversion from "intermediate zone" and "two intermediate zones" to "one line", "one pack " and "three worlds" during the period of 1940s to 1970s. Meanwhile, Sino-U.S relationship had been uncertain, changing from contradiction and containment to relaxation and the establishment of diplomatic relations. In the crucial times when both opportunities and changes co-exist, Mao Tsetung, as supreme decision- maker of New China, contributed his geopolitical theory, which had played a key role in the dramatic change of the relationship between China and the U.S. Therefore, a deeper understanding of Mao Tsetung's geopolitical theory and the inter-relationship between Sino-U.S. requires the combination of the two parts to be put at the vast background of that times for further analysis and research, based on such kind of consideration and from a historical sight, this article beginning from an analysis of the geographical reality of the two countries.
