Trade Concentration Study On China's Agricultural Products Exported To Japan

This paper is a study on the changing on structure of agricultural products and the pattern of export to Japan. On the basis of China's yearly exported data from 1992-2002,this paper use concentration index to weight the market structure, and forecast the trend of development.By classifying the export commodities into labor-intensive (LI) and land-intensive (CI) ones, this paper examines the relationship between agricultural products and comparative advantage. The empirical results indicate that the export structure reflects the existing situation of comparative advantage in China. Thereby, agricultural products' export necessity concentrate on those LI products. Also this trend has already showed its stabilization and maturation. The key products are fishery products, gardening products and livestock products.By dynamic comparing China's concentration index with America's, the conclusion is China's trade concentration contacts with the China-Japan trade friction. The range of China's fluctuate is far more than America's. The deep reason behind it is two countries' different status in Japan's trade income and expenses.2002 can't see much difference in concentration index of two countries. So it Japan's imported market determined China's agricultural products export.The author believe that the main reason of trade concentration are:(l)the difference resources between two country; supply and demand's change in Japan demotic; special location between China and Japan; economy effect of agricultural products export concentration are both positive and negative. The main reason of agricultural export changing are: domestic policy changing of export trade; the development of agricultural machining industry; produce and sale's condition in Japan; the effect of agricultural invest from Japan.In future, the factors of effecting agricultural export concentration are: dependence degree of agricultural products export to Japan; demand condition in Japan; our agricultural product's superiority; the agriculture project's degree in Japan. In short period, the degree of our agricultural product export breakthrough Green Trade Barrier from Japan is the main factor of effecting agricultural products concentration.
