The concept of agricultural production composition adjustment and the cropping system were discussed in this paper. The author investigated the adjustment of agricultural production composition in Taizhou Region, analyzed its problems and proposed the countermeasures. The main research results included:1. The background of agricultural production composition in Taizhou Region and its inevitability were analyzed in this paper. The relation between agricultural composition adjustment and high cash income agriculture was also referred to.2. The characteristics of agricultural composition adjustment in Taizhou Region could be concluded as follows: (1) the field production conditions were improved and the yield potential for grain crops was increased continuously. (2) The area for planting grain was steadily declining but increasing in the drop. The proportion of excellent varieties and high quality crops was rising. (3) The area for planting annual cash crops was rapidly expanding, especially the vegetables, whose production was evidently increasing. (4) A new agricultural composition had developed with famous, special and good products in each region. (5) The area for planting perennial cash crops (fruit trees) was basically constant, but the inner component also changed, mainly including the increasing of grape and pear planting area, the optimization of variety types and the product quality. All proved that the multi-component for the planting industry in Taizhou Region was developing.3. The investigation about the planting area of main crops in Taizhou Region indicated that the area for planting early rice rapidly declined, at the same time, the cash crops expanded. It seemed that the decline of the rice resulted from the agricultural composition adjustment. Although the decline of rice provided room for cash crops, the two had no direct relation. It was mainly because of the seasonal desolation. Now the phenomenon of desolation of early rice or planting one-season rice was very common.4. The analysis about high yield and cash income planting patterns indicated thatthe "two grain crops and one cash crop", "one grain crop and one cash crop" and "one grain crop and two cash crops" patterns accounted for 81% of the high yield and cash income rotation planting patterns. And they were popular with farmers. The first pattern was with the yield of 860.7kg/667m2 and 3014.6 Yuan per year, the net income was 2450.1 Yuan. It harmonized the development of grain and cash crops. For this pattern early rice and late rice in summer, cash crops in winter were mainly planted. The cash crops in winter mainly referred to vegetables, such as the preserved planting of potatoes, preserved Szechwan pickles, mustards, fresh peas, horse beans, strawberries and so on. The yield per unit of the second pattern obviously declined, which was 487.4 kg/667m2, but the total value was greatly improved, the mean was 6965.0 Yuan, and the net income was 5321.5 Yuan. For this pattern one-season late rice was mainly planted. Because the time was plentiful, the preserved planting of this pattern was basically about one-season melons and vegetables, the rotation of a grass used for mat in the fields with rice. It led to both cash income and more grain yield and many cases had realized a higher goal. The third pattern was basically about graincrops in a year, the cash crop was mainly produced in the fields, partly in thepreserved way. So the cash income was worse than that of the second pattern.5. According to the comparative advantage about production in Taizhou Region and other regions in Zhejiang Province, planting grain, sugarcanes, vegetables and fruit trees had greater advantage, but the priority of grain was declining. Vegetables had no comparative advantage before, but it was rising now. The sugarcanes had absolute priority. There were six leading crop production belts in Taizhou Region: (1) grain production mainly in Xian'ju and Linhai County, whose production area was 34500 ha in 2002, accounting for 35.2% of the...
