As one type of the trend, manufacturing agglomeration is a extraordinary phenomenon of modern regional economic development. Causing concentration of population and service trade, increasing the effect of economy of scale and scope, Aggregation of manufacturing makes urban economy booming and competitive. Due to the essential function to foster urban advantage mentioned above, research on agglomeration of urban manufacturing is unusual meaningful to urban cities and their economic hinterland.The dissertation summarizes the related documents firstly. In foreign research production, it is extracted form three parts, i.e. source, mechanism and shape. In domestic one, expanded from four parts, i.e. theory, measuring, type and tendency. When summarizing, it point out the limitation, value and development space.After document survey, the dissertation generalizes the correlated theory. Based on the explanation of manufacturing industry, the connotative meaning and characters are treated, as well as the mechanism of manufacturing agglomeration.Two sections are included in positive analysis. One section is the measuring and verification to manufacturing agglomeration. Based on the assumption and method advanced, the situation of agglomeration among Nangjing, Wuxi, Shanghai, Hanghzou, Suzhou, Ningbo is compared and analyzed. After that, correlation analysis between scale agglomeration and efficiency indexes was done, so between cluster and efficiency indexes. The conclusion is that scale agglomeration is effective and effect is different among different industries, from which the industry select strategy was advanced to rear manufacturing agglomeration.The other section is about how to rear manufacturing agglomeration, this layer was discussed on two cases, petrochemical manufacturing industry and IT manufacturing industry. The former is typical of internal scale economic effect in a enterprise, and the later is dramatic in internal scale economic effect in a industry. The conclusion is that decision should follow industries' character and region's reality, and what matters in Nanjing is petrochemical manufacturing industry and IT manufacturing industry, development environment of enterprise is most impormant.At last, the countermeasure to Nanjing is proposed on the qualitative and positive analysis above.The destination of the dissertation is analyzing the situation and tables proposals to Nanjing's manufacturing agglomeration by summing up the law of manufacturing agglomeration in Yangzi -Delta cities.
