The firms are increasingly influenced by international competitors, demanding customers, rapid technological change, and shorter product life cycles. The practices of the advanced firms are showing that the firms have benefited from the supply chain management and the supply management. The topic items focus on the relationship between the buyer and supplier (or the supplier relationship).The Organizational Theory, Principle-Agent Theory and Supply Chain Management Theory were applied to this thesis through integrated qualitative and quantitative approaches. A lot of tasks as follow were done: to orient the supplier relationship, make a qualitative judgment on the type of the supplier relationship, put forward three dimensions of the supplier relationship for orientation system, and establish the quantitative model, do a research in a chemical plant… The conclusions of this thesis are as follows: the structure of supplier relationship is pyramid component with common relationship, prior relationship, cooperate relationship and strategy relationship four types. The characteristics of the supplier relationship could be expressed by four modules----the behavior of purchase and contract management, operation management, supplier management and the structure of the organization. Three dimensions--Standardization, Continuance, dependability established in the quantitative model set up the frame of the supplier relationship orientation system. A case study provide evidences that the origination system of the supplier relationship established in this thesis was rational and measurable.The study of the structure and characteristic of supplier relationship, the establishment of relationship dimensions and the supplier orientation model in this thesis are creative. It provides a reference to the organizational decision.
