The development of Information Technology (IT) industry has become the engine of a new increase period of the world economy. It is also the backbone of Taiwan's economy. The study of Taiwan's IT industry will let the government and academe of the mainland know more about Taiwan's economy. The study can also be used for reference to the IT industry of the mainland. This thesis is mainly a demonstration study about the competitiveness of Taiwan's IT industry. An index system of IT industry competitiveness is established based on a study of the specialties of the IT industry and the definition of industry competitiveness. The index system with 32 indexes is divided into three layers. They are system layer, structure layer and datum layer. The four indexes or four parts of the system layer, which are Market Competitiveness, Business Efficiency, Technological Innovation and Sustainable Development, are studied separately. The indexes of the datum system are analyzed and calculated. The calculations methods of the indexes are consisted of direct achieve, quantitative calculation of mathematic model and the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). A comparative with the mother mainland, the USA, etc. is also made.As the research method is concerned, the combination of quantitative method and qualitative method is applied in the research. There is also an integration of the index system and some mathematic models. Some of the indexes are calculated by use of models. A DEA model is used to estimate the business efficiency of the Taiwan IT industry and other counties and regions'. Taiwan's IT industry business efficiency of the recent nine years is compared in the model at the same time. A complete information dynamic game model is used to analyze the improvement of the ability of Taiwan's IT technological innovation. When the product is of network externality, we investigate the behaviors of the imitators in the Bass model. We put forward a new Bass model based on Small World Networks (SWN) with the name of SWN-Bass. A demonstration of the diffusion of Taiwan's internet users is also made. The indexes of the datum layer are collected and used for AHP model to estimate the final competitiveness of the Taiwan's IT industry.
