The reformation and development of the small and medium enterprises on engineering design has become a hot spot in construction industries in our country. While the market rules in engineering design developing more reasonable, the small and medium enterprises face a more difficult situation. To survive in such a situation, these companies must pay more attention to strategic management, innovation ability development and core competence improvement.By examining the company's histories, current situation, external forces and internal forces, we study the corporation strategy of Shenzhen Gas Engineering Design Co. Ltd. under the current environment. Several operating strategies, which include market intensive strategy, differentiation strategy and niche strategy, are provide as suitable business strategies for the company. For its growth and development, the company must pay more attention in human resources and core competencies management. At first, we describe the histories and current situation of the company. Second, we analyses the problems the company exits. By examining the overall external environment, industry development status and internal resources, we give the suggestions on long-range objectives, company operating strategy, core competencies development and human resources management. Last, we discuss the development strategy of small and medium enterprises on engineering design, and study the strategic management of these enterprises on market, human resources, innovation, and management. Always paying attention to strategic management, overcoming its own defects progressively, holding the market opportunities, utilizing its advantages, the small and medium engineering design enterprises could survive and develop in the market competition.
