Product concept is a project plan for new product development (NPD)or a product model which indicates the interaction between the firm and the academic or the consumer. New product concept development (NPCD) is one of the most important factors of new product success, which can mine completely the consumer needs, provide the decision framework for the product team, reduce the development time and the product cost for the whole life-cycle. Complex products have a large number of systemic interactions and have radical innovations for certain modules or the whole systemic structure, both of which indicate the essential differences between complex products and general products.Based on the integration of the three concept-structured methods, including Function Structure, Axiomatic Design and Design Structure Matrix, by detail case studies for NPCD processes of the infrared telescope and the infrared long-distance measuring system, the thesis expands the existed NPCD model mainly focusing on the systemic interactions in complex products, proposes a Structured Model for Complex New Product Concept Development (CNPCD) and has mainly researched on the concept-structured activities in the Structured Model for CNPCD.Based on the four product concept field- the information field, the product specification field, the design solution field and the development task field, the thesis integrates the existed structured methods only focusing on a certain side into the a uniform model facing the whole CNPCD process. 16 kinds of product concept knowledge in the four product concept fields are identified in the model and four kinds of concept development activities totally 16 kinds are concluded in the CNPCD process: general concept development activities, systemic interaction identification activities, decomposition and integration activities and supporting activities. The most important difference between The Structured Model for CNPCD and the general NPCD model is that the Structured Model emphasizes the concept-structured activities including systemic interaction identification and decomposition and integration activities. The thesis identifies and abstracts the concept-structured activities from the general NPCD activities, confirms their interactive relationship; proposes the key issues and implementation solutions and draws the implementation flow charts for two activities based on the detail case studies for design interaction identification and product specification decomposition.
