A Study On The Coordinated Development Of Urbanization And Regional Economy Of Gansu Province

Urbanization is the result of economic and social development, and it also gives an impetus to regional economic development. In general, economic growth promotes economic structure to change, and economic structure changes accelerate urbanization directly. To some extend, industrialization is the economic essence of urbanization, and urbanization is the special outspread of industrialization. In addition, the development of agriculture, the transformation of the surplus rural labor force and the development of the tertiary industry promote the development of urbanization directly.Now in Gansu province, the level of the urbanization is low, and it is still at initial stage. The scale structure of the cities of Gansu province is unreasonable; The structure of distribution of the cities is lopsided; The regional difference of the urbanization level is remarkable, and the urban industrial structure is twisted. In fact, the outstanding characteristics above-mentioned are the reflection of the embedded and isolated industrialization on time and on the space.As regards of economic growth, the urbanization of Gansu province does not lag behind the economic development, and there is a low-level equilibrium between the two aspects. According to industrialization, there is a great deviation between output structure and employment structure. The laggard urbanization and the " weak quality " industrialization are also in a state of low-level equilibrium. Besides economic factors, the policy, system, and even idea changing also take important influence on the urbanization of Gansu province.When coming to each region of Gansu province, we find the regional urbanization and the regional economy are incoordination. In some regions the industrialization degree is higher but the urbanization level is lower. In some regions the urbanization level is higher but the tertiary industry development is inadequate, and in some regions the tertiary industry is not laggard but the urbanization level is very low.To break up the low-level equilibrium between the urbanization and the economic development of Gansu Province, we must push forward the two aspects at the same time, and regard the economic growth and the transition of urban industry as the essential contents of the urbanization. Also, we should put emphasis on the development of the central city of each region, and integrate the agricultural industrialization and the adjustment of the rural enterprise of Gansu province.
