With the development of world economy, cities in China have been mushrooming in a rapid speed. There have had more than 660 big, medium and small sized cities and over 20,000 organizational towns all over the country since opening up policy was adopted in China. The spatial density of cities becomes increasingly high due to the aggregation of many surplus labors and companies from rural areas in cities. In the new century, urban development will be promoted in China through industrialization and informatization. On one hand, the speed of urban development should be accelerated to achieve the transfer of population between agriculture and non-agriculture industry while controlling the size of the city to enable the coordinative development of various sized cities. On the other hand, city functions have to be identified to adjust the direction of development to avoid unreasonable structural issues arising during the development to promote the healthy development of cities.Urban spatial structure is defined as the distribution pattern of urban elements. The changes of city population, economic entity and social structure in the urban areas can all represent in urban space. With the rapid development of urbanization, Chinese cities have entered a new stage of scaled expansion. Not only urban spatial scale has been increasingly expanded, but also the connections between spatial elements seems to be increasingly complicated. Spatial structure and mechanism of the cities have considerably changed.Basing on the introduction of the theory of land economics, economies benefit of agglomeration, new Marxism and city regime, this paper analyzed the characteristics: system ,self-organizing and by-organizing, dynamic and phase of change ,uneven of urban spatial structure, and with the course of movement of city's elements , discuss the mechanism of urban spatial restructure: benefit of spacial convergency economy, mode of two kinds of land using, reformation of economy organizing, development of information network technology. The dominant models of spatial restructure in terms of urban economy, society and culture during China's transitional period were discussed, and the urban spatial structure was also explained from the standpoint of urban governance. The paper studied the influences on urban spatial structure by threeprincipal urban parts: government, enterprise and individual. The reconstructive ways in terms of city administrative space, industrial space and residential space were finally discussed through the theory of city regime combined with cases.
