The value of ideological and political education includes social value and individual value.The social value of ideological and political education can be classified into the following parts: the economical value, the political value, the cultural value and the ecological value. The individual value means that it can lead people to hold to the correct political orientation, inspire people, shape personality and regulate people's behaviour and morality. theorefically, the relationship between the social value and the individual value of ideological and political education should be a discriminating unity. on the one hand the individual value can be shown and demonstrated in the social value, and the individual value is the premise and foundation of the social value. They are interelated to each other. On the other hand, there are some differences between the individual value and the social value, and one cannot take place of the other. In practice, the social value has been separated from the individual value. Among a number of conditions which can express the separation of the two value, the commonest one is that people always attach importance to the social value of ideological and political education and pay much attention to the action of ideological and political education on the social progress, whereas they neglect the individual value of ideological and political education, namely, the value and meaning of ideological and political education on personal development. This can be found in selecting and determining the content of ideological and political education, in performing the function of ideological and political education and determining the criteria for moral evaluation. This separation lead to so many unfavorable consequences that ideological and political education can't function effectivelly, and that the value of ideological and political education has not been fully realized,and that the effection of ideological and political education on personal development and social progression is not what it should have been. In this situation, the implications of discussing how to realize the unity between the social value and the individual value of ideological and political education will be far-reaching undoubtedly. The social value and the individual value of ideological and political education, being the two organic parts, are equally important . We should not pay attention to one part and at the same time neglect the other part. Neglecting any part will infuence the realization of the value of the other part, affect the realization of the value of ideological and political education. Whatsmore this will influence the function of ideological and political education on socialist construction.
