Analysis Of The News Reports About People With Disabilities

In this paper, news reports about people with disabilities on《People's Daily》and《Southern Weekly》will be studied through a combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis methods, which includes methods of literature study, content analysis and comparative analysis method. The study will research the characteristics, changing trends and the similarities and differences between reports about the disabled on these two media in the past more than 5 years from 2006 up to now.The paper will collect and search a variety of relevant literatures in recent years by the method of literature, including books, papers, and journal database information, etc., especially in the field of journalism and communication studies about the news reports about the disabled. The paper is finished on the basis of learning and studying these materials and documents. It will learn the strengths of the literatures as references to research content, paper framework and research methods, while reflect on and correct their gaps to guide this papers.Using the method of content analysis, the paper chooses all types of news reports about the disabled on the two newspapers since 2006 as the research objects, then measure various parameters in the form of the tables systematically by encoding the results in digital form, in the end, show the specific features, similarities and differences in the form of charts.Using the method of comparative study, select the two newspapers with different location settings, natures and attributes, and then compare the news reports on the two newspapers about the disabled during the same period. On the basis of the same objects and the same thesis, the comparison will give a clearer picture of the two sides about the characteristics, principles, drawbacks and places needed to be improved. Because of the quite different location setting and nature, the amounts of the two are totally different, so the study will focus on the comparison of the reports perspective, topics and the sources of the news.In the part of analysis and conclusion, on the basis of the theories of issue setting, information balance and spiral of silence, combining the philosophies and concepts of "Strengths Perspective" in social work with the disabled, observe and reflect the existence and the future of the news reports about the disabled on our newspapers. Then seek for a more objective, fair, comprehensive, effective and full coverage for the disabled people, supplying a reliable reference and base for the public to understand, accept, care about and treat the group equally.Finally, according to the results of studies, statistics and analysis, combined with the actual situation, referring to the major Western media reports of persons with disabilities, some effective and reflective suggestions and considerations will be proposed to the news reports about the disabled people on the Chinese mass media.
