Crisis management theory originated in 1960s in international society. More and more crises happened and almost led to nuclear war because two Superpowers struggled for the world hegemony. After the guided missile crisis of Cuba, people began to realize the serious consequence of crises. All kinds of theories on international crisis management came into being at the opportune historic moment. This dissertation chiefly expounds strategies of crisis management from an angle of national interest.The first section summarizes the concept and characteristics of international crisis. Scholars define international crisis from macroscopic and microcosmic angle. This paper discusses the definition not only from two angles above but also from the angle of conflicts.An international crisis is a special stage in a international conflict. The international war will break out if the crisis cannot be effectively managed. Suddenness, verge of a war, threat and urgency are four characteristics of international crises.The second section elaborates the implication ,necessity, and internal contradiction on international crisis management. International crisis management is a process in which a war is avoided and national interest is protected. Understanding the internal contradiction of international crisis management helps us to work out right strategies of crisis management.The third section expounds the relations among national interest, international crisis and international crisis management. An international crisis originates in conflicts for national interest. The importance of national interest decides the seriousness of international crisis and the pattern of international crisis management.
