Urban tourism has been prevailing in the developed western countries since nineteen sixties. Now in China urban tourism begins and develops well in Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou. Wuhan is a super city with area 8467 hk., population near 8 million. And it becomes the Chinese first-rank tourism city in 1998. This paper discusses how to realize the sustainable development of urban tourism in Wuhan on the premise that Wuhan orientates urban tourism and it pays more attention at two aspects: to protect hills and waters, to protect natural ecological environment. The paper has four chapters.The chapter one is the brief introduction of urban tourism. It contains two parts. The first part is to introduce the history and tourism product types, confine the city standard and define urban tourism; the second part analyzes the motivation of urban tourism.The chapter two is about urban tourism in Wuhan. Based on the city standard listed in the chapter one, Wuhan is capable of developing urban tourism, In fact, at present Wuhan has already developed and is ready to develop corresponding tourism products and lines to meet up with urban tourism.The chapter three analyses the Wuhan natural resource, hills and waters which are foundation stone and start to develop and plan urban tourism in Wuhan. This part sets forth the status quo and features of hills and waters.The chapter four is the main part of the paper. It's key point is how to realize the the sustainable development of urban tourism in Wuhan. To obtain this aim, we should take some measures. Such as, protecting hills and waters; calculating capability of scenic spot or area; protecting the whole natural ecological environment.
