Objective: In cases of trauma, fractures are famaliar, appropriate imaging studies appropriately performed and interpreted will help direct treatment and improve outcome with greater clarity and certainty. Our experience to discuss the clinical value of multi-spiral computed tomography (MSCT) in diagnosing fractures, study the advantage, shortage and mutual benefit of conventional X-ray film, CT and MSCT, improve veracity of juridical judge. Methods: 366 cases of trauma were scanned with Toshiba Aquilion MSCT. Original data obtained with transaxial images were transferred to workstation and processed with SSD(surface shaded display), see-through and MPR (multi-planer reconstruction). The images generated by all techniques were compared for fracture line, fragment displacement, collapse degree and space information and in conjunction with conventional X-ray film and CT. Results: The rate of fracture marked is different between MSCT and conventional X-ray film or CR(P<0.01);the rate of fracture marked is indifferent between MSCT and conventional CT(P>0.05),the three-dimensional reconstruction is helpful for evaluation fractures. Conclusion: MSCT is a powerful modality for evaluation of fractures, it can improve the rate of fractures marked, valuable in juridical judge.
