Heritage resort is one of the most important kinds of tourist destinations. Under the pressure of large number of tourists, heritage resorts are facing many problems in terms of environment and resources. In order to promote the preservation and development at heritage resorts, how to manage heritage resorts more effectively and continuously has become the focus of the studies and bones of contention. By summing up and analyzing different management systems at heritage resorts, comparing the management systems in China and abroad, referring the managing experiences at overseas heritage resorts, comparing different operational modes at Chinese heritage resorts, discussing problems existing at the resorts and exploring some corresponding strategies, the author hopes that her work will in some way, help enrich the contents of Tourism Geography, Tourism Management and Tourism Society, promotes proper exploitation and effective preservation of heritage resorts, and provides some grounds for the purpose of sustainable development at heritage resorts as well. Therefore, this thesis is of certain importance both in theories and practice. The thesis consists of 5 chapters: In Chapter 1, the author firstly puts forward the concept of heritage resorts, Then she makes a detailed review of both abroad and domestic literatures on studies of management systems at heritage resorts, and presents the study background, study methods, study contents and study frame of this thesis. In Chapter 2, the author makes a comparative study of management systems at heritage resorts between domestic and abroad research, including the history of development at heritage resorts, the management organizations and theirs powers, laws and rules, the investment situation at heritage resorts, the establishment and implementation of the planning, community residents participation and operational modes. Then the author points out some problems concerning management systems at heritage resorts, and brings forward some advice and draws some conclusions. In Chapter 3, the author comprehensively analyzes and compares some important operational modes at different heritage resorts, including company operational mode and non-company operational mode, emphasizing especially on the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages, backgrounds and applying grounds of different company operational modes, such as tenancy operational mode, listed company operational mode, villages and towns company operational mode. In Chapter 4, using the methods of social survey and demonstration analysis, the author analyzes the management systems at Xidi and Hongcun Village. As ancient villages, both of them are listed in World Cultural Heritage. However, they differs from each other in terms of management system and operational modes, which, as a result, has different impacts on tourism development and preservation at the two villages. The author, thereafter, tries to point out some problems and proposes some corresponding strategies, hoping to be of some reference for the preservation and tourism sustainable development of the two villages. In Chapter 5, the author points out some innovations of the thesis, as well as some problems to be discussed for further improvement in the future.
