With the arrival of the information civilization, the human being steps into the era in which it can succeed by way of image. The image of a city has gradually become a key factor that influences and restricts the existence and the development of a city. Chongqing, as the new municipality directly under the Central Government, is facing the good opportunity of great development in Western Part of China and the Economic Zone along the Changjiang River. It has a significant meaning to enhance its image and strengthen its comprehensive competitiveness.The city logo is one of the essential elements for the visual identity system and a special word or graphic symbol for public communication. It is a visual language by which the city communictes with the public and conveys information. The city logo should be able to convey such abstract conceptions as the identity-orientation, the core culture value and the future development tendency of the city. It is a basic means whereby to broaden celebrity and enhance good fame of the city. The present available documents illustrate that Chongqing needs to make a study in designing and communicating of visual identity. This essay attempts to study the designing of the city logo by way of practical survey and theoretical research. The whole essay consists of four parts.Part â… : Introduction. In this part the essay briefs on the origin and the problems of city logo in Chongqing, gives a comprehensive analysis of all documents and achievements in this field, and presents the value, the frame, the purpose, the method and the steps of the study.Part â…¡: The analysis of the investigation on the public views about the city logo of Chongqing.The investigation is conducted among the public and officials of Chongqing and other places by interview, chat and questionnaire.
