Iraq is the heart of Middle East from ancient times because of its important position as a traffic pivot which connects Europe with Asia and Africa. Iraq was found abundance of petroleum in modern times and many international powers fought for it. During the Cold War, the two superpowers, the United States and the Soviet Union, contended for Iraq as one of their objectives. Moreover, Iraq was also a target for attack by the US after the Cold War. From the perspective of the geopolitical theory, the true purpose of the Iraqi war is that the US covets the important position and Iraqi geopolitical values. Actually, the aim of overthrowing Saddam is to pursue the US' Middle East Strategy in the 21st century. It is that through the Project for the Greater Middle East, Middle East is promoted to political democratization, economical liberalization and ideological diversification. Thus, the United States can maintain its fast control to this important geopolitical strategic position and oil prices by mastering the abundance of petroleum resources. Finally, it can enhance dominant position on the globe. Under the shock of this Iraqi war, new great changes will take place of the geopolitical relations in Middle East. However, many limitations of the United States' Middle East strategy in the 21st century are stuck out and have to be under test rigidly.
