What geopolitics cares about is about special extent that the sovereignty's influence in politics, economy, military and culture can reach, that is, geopolitical interests. The core of the sovereignty's geo-policy is to safeguard its geopolitical interests and to give an assurance that it is secure and that its economy is flourishing. Both China and the United States have vital geopolitical interests in Southeast Asia. The geopolitical interests of the United States are mainly the two—one is about the geo-strategy and the other is about economy, and those of China are more complicated and multi-directions. According to comparison, we know, the two sides have homologous geopolitical interests, namely keeping stable and peaceful, safeguarding the security of the water corridor and attack terrorism in this region. Meanwhile, the two sides have colliding geopolitical interests, such as geo-strategic collision, contending for the leadership of the region and so on. So the two sides value this region more than before, and reinforce geo-strategic deployment. In this case, the Southeast Asian nations have different perspectives of the two sides. They become more and more acceptable with the China's rising, but they still rely heavily on the U.S. economy and security. So, in order to gain more geopolitical interests, China should better further reinforce geo-strategic deployment in economic, political, secure and cultural respects.
