The thesis attempts to analyze the relations between the American New Leftphenomenon and the American social transformations, the social causes of thephenomenon and its social function in American society. The thesis regards the AmericanNew Left phenomenon as an automatic and active mechanism to balance and improvecontemporary capitalism.American New Left phenomena emerged on the social stage in 1960s, being one partof the social movements. It was a new social force composed of young students, scholars,and other social activists. The New Left's important organization was STUDENTS FOR ADEMOCRATIC SOCIETY (SDS), which played an important role in the course of socialprogress at that time. Because of the internal and external factors in 1970s, the New Leftmovement declined in American. With the disintegration of SDS, many New Leftistscontinued their social criticism in various.ways, but individually. When the globalizationaccelerated in 1990s, the New Left movement got a new opportunity to revive and develop.Now the New Leftists not only participate in domestic affairs, but also more and moretransnational affairs.American New Left movement cares for these values: equality, justice, peace anddemocracy. It exerts deep influences on almost all the fields of contemporary Americasociety. It is an active mechanism to renovate modern capitalism.
