The then France in which Emile Durkheim lived was experiencing drastic changes from traditional agricultural society to modern industrial society. The old value system was losing its dominant position during the transformation from traditional society to modern one. However, new normative system that suited modern society has not been fully established. Great social transformation made moral ties which integrated social order fracture. Thus, society trapped in a "moral vacuum" state. At that time, the individualism in France was rampant, the gap between rich and poor was widened, and society was very turbulent and was in multiple crises. In Durkheim's opinion, if those crises to be solved, the reconstruction of social norms system must be based on modern society and the regulatory function of code of ethics must be enforced.Contemporary Chinese society is also in quick transition period which is from tradition to modern and from planned economy to market economy. Morality "Anomie" phenomenon inevitably appears in all fields and at all levels: decline of social cohesion, diversification of social interests bitter conflict between new and old concepts, great challenge in social integration. Such phenomenon makes the social scene we face essentially different from that of Durkheim's, but they are a bit similar on the surface. According to the solution to the then France moral crisis that we use discipline to regulate people's behavior, to cultivate the students'spirit of discipline, establishing a social norms system that society lacks is something of universal significance. The full text is divided into three sections. The first part is about Durkheim's Spirit of Discipline background of the times and its theoretical background. The paper describes French social and moral disorder, and social situation of facing multiple crises from the mid-19th century to the early 20th century. In response to this reality,Durkheim advocated a thorough redevelopment of moral education system and the implementation of secular moral education. In his ideological and sociological theory and pedagogy, he embodied all the social order, regulate, discipline attention. The second part is the interpretation of the Durkheim's spirit of discipline. The article is trying to explain clearly what Durkheim said about the spirit of discipline from its meaning, function and cultivation of the spirit of discipline. The Durkheim's spirit of discipline includes conventionality and authority. In his opinion, discipline itself is a separate category of education; it also plays a function of educating people as well as a management function. In the process of cultivating, we can use children's psychological characteristics that they are vulnerable to the effect of habits and implication, and make use of punishment and reward rationally. The third part is about the enlightenment that the spirit of discipline to the contemporary Chinese moral education. I think we should attach great importance to the cultivation of the spirit of discipline. Because it is not only conducive to combating "Anomie" phenomenon during social transitional period, to training students'good personality, but good to improving effectiveness of the Primary and secondary education on discipline as well. Second, we should re-examine the content of the spirit of discipline. Considering contemporary social realities and moral education in primary and secondary schools, the spirit of discipline we need should be in line with the contemporary characteristics of China's spirit of discipline, should give full play of educational function and respect for the personality development of students. At last, we should optimize the spirit of the discipline training method by stipulating disciplines and rules, establishing and maintaining the authority of discipline, playing the moral function of school discipline, cultivating the students'spirit of self-discipline.
