The end of the Cold War, has broken the nearly forty years contended for hegemony between the United States and the Soviet Union. Since then, the world towards to a comprehensive peace and development, the trend of globalization sweeping across the world, the multi-polar is the inevitable direction of the development of the international pattern. Facing of the impact, which was brought by the globalization and the multi-polarization to the world, for maintain a long-term peace and development, the traditional paradigm of balance of power has been thought that can not solve the common problems all countries have to face in the post-cold war period, and countries are seeking new forms to counteract the lack of current form when they work in the external contacts. Therefore, the form of multilateral diplomacy to run of cooperation has been widely used by many countries in their diplomatic practices in the world wide, and the multilateral diplomatic activities increasingly frequent. Under such a background, China's multilateral diplomacy continuous developed, and increasingly become an important means of China's diplomacy.At the global level, China takes the United Nations as a platform, and extensive participation in the global affairs by the leading of the United Nations, such as reforms, peace-keeping operations, development issues, disarmament, human rights reform, etc.; at the district level, through the multilateral diplomacy, China further strengthen the cooperation with its neighboring countries, and actively promote the regional multilateral organizations and regimes to establishment and development, just like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization(SCO), Association of Southeast Asian Nation(ASEAN), and the North Korea Nuclear Talks, etc.; in addition, China also actively involved in the cross region of the North-South cooperation and intercontinental cooperation, and got marvelous meats and achievements. Has a strong sense of sovereignty is the most distinctive characteristics of China's multilateral diplomatic activities in the post-cold war period, take the non-aligned and the cooperation as the basic ideas are the important ideological guarantees of the China's multilateral diplomacy. Moreover, China's multilateral diplomacy also has the characters of areas wide-rangingly and forms variously, and not only involves in the traditional areas, such as the political area, the economic area, etc., but also broad involved in the non-traditional areas, for example, the area of energy, the area of culture, and so on; and the forms are mainly include the multilateral head diplomacy, multilateral political party diplomacy, multilateral folk diplomacy (including the diplomacy between the non-governmental organizations), and so on.Through the multilateral diplomatic activities, China plays a more and more important role in the international affairs, and sets up a responsible great nation image gradually; the multilateral diplomatic activities promoted the relationships between China and other nations, and attained the goal of increasing trust, solving problems and accelerating cooperation, and has created a favorable external environment for China's peacefully rise; the multilateral diplomatic activities also urged the Chinese economy and the world economics related closely day by day, and stimulated the Chinese economy with steady steps healthy development. Nevertheless, China's multilateral diplomacy is not perfect, there are still some difficulties and problems need to resolve. So these would request us to insist to maintain the principle of independence and keep initiative, and the peaceful win-win principle; take account bilateral and multilateral cooperation and coordination; improve the multilateral diplomacy organizations and its regimes. Thus, enhances the efficiency of the multilateral diplomacy, and causes it better to be adopted by China.
