China is a country with a large population of overseas Chinese. At the beginning of the 20th century, there were7,000,000 overseas Chinese all over the world, today there are over 30,000,000 overseas Chinese throughout the world. So overseas Chinese affairs occupy a very important posotion in Chinese government's affairs. At the beginning of the founding of People's Republic of China, our party and government laid emphasis on overseas Chinese affairs, set up special organizations, formulated a series of policies, opening up a new era for the work in overseas Chinese affairs. During the Cultural Revolution, the overseas Chinese policies were left aside, the institutions were dossolved and the overseas Chinese affairs were cast away.
