Study Of Barrier And Development Trend Between US-ROK Alliance

After the cold war,the United States becomes the only superpower in the world. To maintain its hegemonic status stable and lasting,the US doesn't allow the appearance of any countries and regions that can threaten its safety interests, nor will it allow the turning-up of another country or a group of countries that can challenge its ruling status.The Korean peninsula,with its special strategic importance and geopolitical environment,has become an essential part in the US global strategy.Moreover,we should notice that in the US policy planning of Korean peninsula and even Northeastern Asia the maintenance and development of US-South Korean alliance is the basic guarantee of the realization of its goal."Engage in containing" and "contain in engaging" compose the basic line of the US policy toward North Korea.On the one hand,the US attempts to standardize and regulate North Korea to its own purpose:to eliminate a threat to its own safety and also to strengthen its interference in the peninsula affairs.In this sense, the real intention of the US is to establish American political system in the future peninsula,to set up market economic system based on free economy,and therefore, to enroll eventually the united peninsula into its global strategy.On the other hand is that the layer concerning big countries around peninsula is still the core of the US global strategy.It seeks big countries support to and cooperation with its Korean peninsula policy in order to promote the peace and unification process of the peninsula in accordance with its own will.At the same time,relying on its supreme power,it contains these countries and limits their influence on the issue by oversea power balance and multi-polar equilibrium.We should notice that in the US policy planning of Korean peninsula the maintenance and development of US-South Korean alliance is the basic guarantee of the realization of its goal.With the change in international situation,the alliance has experienced a process of continuous modulating and transforming of its function.Nevertheless,its key importance in the US Asia-Pacific safety strategy has not changed.After the cold war,along with the recovery of Korean nationalism and the surges anti-US sentiment upward day after day and the fast growth of Korean economy,the US-South Korean alliance has changed from initial "the blood pledge" relationship to "the equal partner" the relationship gradually.Due to the enhancement of political status and international influence, ROK request to get rid of being dependent on the US in politics,economy,military and diplomatic aspect even more.At the same time,their inherent contradictions, which have gradually exposed in the transformation process,will inevitably affect development direction of the US-South Korean alliance in the future.Simultaneous, we also clearly noticed that no matter "estrangement-US faction" Kim Dae Jung President and Roh Moo-Hyun President and "intimacy-US faction" President Li Mingbo,who is unable to avoid the differences and contradictions which have existed in various fields between the alliance.But along with the respective development of American and Korean politics and economy,whether the contradictions weaken or not that all can bring many uncertain elements in alliance. Therefore the research of contradictions existence is very significant,it will forecast the development trend and analyze strategic formulation between the alliance,which also provides the different angles to regard the US-South Korean alliance development.
