China's Volunteer Status Quo And Development Strategy

Voluntary service, as a new social participating, mechanism and interpersonal interaction pattern, is born under the background of economic restructuring and social reforming in China. It undertakes many commonweal service functions which are hardly provided by the government administration and profitable organizations, and utilizes social resources effectively. It solves, by way of self-help or interdependence, all sorts of special difficulties and problems occurred in social life, and thus pushes constructions of material and spiritual civilizations. It is also significant to build socialist harmonious society. From the sociological and psychological points, this article reviews the development of voluntary service in our country. It analyses and summarizes the main content and important roles of the service, explores, to a greater extend, the major problems, and then puts forward some constructive consideration and countermeasures.
