Austrian Freedom Party (FP(?)): 1986-2008

There are Extreme Right-wing Parties both in Europe and Americas;however,the rising of European Extreme Right-wing Political Parties(also known as the Radical Right-wing Political Party,the Right-wing Populist Parties,etc.) is especially outstanding. Austrian Freedom Party(FP(O|¨)) is a typical representative of the Extreme Right-wing Political Party(or Right-wing Populist Party),which had experienced incumbency in coalition government.Since Haider served the Party as party chairman in 1986,Austrian Freedom Party has got large political gain;it has formed a coalition government with Austrian People's Party((O|¨)VP) for twice.This thesis researches by basic methods of political science.It firstly analyses the nature and characteristics of Austrian Freedom Party,then divides the development of Austrian Freedom Party into several different stages,so as to analyse their different features.The conclusion is reached by analyzing materials,and finding their logical and related clues.There are five parts in this thesis,except the introduction and conclusion:The first chapter shows the Political Environment of Austrian Freedom Party (FP(O|¨)).Austria is a multi-party political system,and its main political parties are list as SP(O|¨),(O|¨)VP,FP(O|¨),Gr(u|¨)nen and so on.The second chapter shows Austrian Freedom Party,which analyses the brief history of Austrian Freedom Party since 1956,the nature and characteristics,stages of division,as well as the most important figure,J(O|¨)rg Haider.The history of Austrian Freedom Party from 1986 to 2008 can be divided into three stages,which will be researched in detail in coming chapters.The third chapter shows the rising of Austrian Freedom Party,which becomes a Populist Protest Party(1986-2000).Since 1986,Haider had transformed Austrian Freedom Party into one of European Extreme Rght-wing Political Parties(or New Populist Right-wing European Political Parties).Austrian Freedom Party had made tremendous progress in Elections to the Nationalrat;it had not only been recognized by the voters,but also had gradually,grown into the third party in Austria.The fourth chapter shows that Austrian Feedom Party came into cabinet in power for twice between 2000 and 2005.Austrian Freedom Party got great success in election to Nationalrat in 1999,becoming parallel the second largest party with the Austrian People's Party;and in 2000 the Austrian People's Party formed coalition govemment with Austrian People's Party.The Extreme Right-wing Political Party's coming to power has caused unease at home and or abroad,fourteen EU countries even started to impose sanctions. After the election to Nationalrat in 2002,Austrian Freedom Party's membership in the Nationalrat decreased.Austrian People's Party formed coalition government with Austrian Freedom Party again,however,Austrian Freed(?)n Party no longer got equal shares" with Austrian Pegple's Party in the government.The fifth chapter shows that Austrian Freedom Party once again became,the opposition party(2005-2008).Austrian Freedom Party in 200 was divided again,Haider set up another political party.Austrian Freedom Party may not be able to reach the original height in the short term.
