Women's Participation In International Politics

For a long time, international politics has always been regarded as a man-dominated field, due to the difference between masculinity and femininity, women were excluded from theory and practice of international politics, so we can say that women were"absentee"in international politics. Moreover, women's contributions have not aroused the attention of the international community. With the end of World War II, especially after 90s of 20 century, the scope and extent of women's participation in international politics are deepen. On one hand, the number of female president,government leaders or senior managers of international organization is rising rapidly. On the other hand, women's outstanding performance also attracts the attention of the international community. In the area of military,political,diplomatic and other"high politics", women have got well performance as president or premier, and in the area of human rights,social,environment and other"low politics",many prominent women politicians and women's organizations have also made great contributions.Since 90s, 20th century, the international political situation and economic globalization provide an excellent opportunity for women's participation in international politics. With the development of international women's movement, and driven by government and non-governmental organizations as well as UN, women are playing an increasingly important role in international politics. Women's participation is positive to the international politics, because it breaks the male monopoly to some extent, and it is conducive to safeguard women's right. In addition, the special contribution what women make in maintaining regional or world peace and environmental protection has won the full recognition of the international community.Certainly, women's participation still faces many limitations, such as: the number of women's participation remains very low, far from achieving gender equality; most women concentrate in the minor power sectors; regional differences emerge in different areas; cultural prejudices and the conflict of women's role between family and community; Nowadays the concept of gender equality is deep in all areas including international political sphere, so we can expect that there will be more women in the international political arena, the future world will be ruled by men and women together.
