Terrestrial dispute is not only a very universal phenomenon between bordering countries, but also one of the most common factors that affect interstate relations. Owing to kinds of reasons, Southeast Asia has become one of the most complex regions where terrestrial disputes exist in the world. This paper gives a relatively comprehensive introduction of the terrestrial disputes in Southeast Asia after warâ…¡, including their general situation, causes, solving ways and impacts.Chapterâ… analyses the general situation of most terrestrial disputes in Southeast Asia, which include terrestrial disputes between Cambodia and Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, Laos and Thailand, Thailand and Myanmar, Thailand and Malaysia, Laos and Myanmar, Malaysia and Indonesia, Brunei and Malaysia. The paper expounds the area they are fighting for, why they are disputing, and the process of disputes and clashes caused by these disputes.Chapterâ…¡gives a full analysis over the ways that the countries in Southeast Asia adopted or are adopting to solve the terrestrial disputes, which mainly are diplomatic negotiation, military confrontation for political negotiation and solving dispute through ICJ. Different modes obtained different effects.Chapterâ…¢discusses the negative influences brought by terrestrial disputes on international relations, regional peace and the development of ASEAN. The paper presents the negative influences what terrestrial disputes cause on the relations between Thailand-Cambodia, Cambodia-Vietnam, Laos-Thailand, Thailand-Myanmar according to hierarchical diagram of interstate relations. As to the development of ASEAN, the paper is of the opinion that the terrestrial disputes between member countries of ASEAN affect the international prestige, the construction of security community of ASEAN and the progress of integration of ASEAN negatively.
