At the same time social work in China is gradually rising, and people start thinking about how to apply social work to the welfare system in the rural elderly. This paper will study from the material needs, life care and spiritual consolation three aspects examine the subjective and objective needs of the elderly in rural west. According to the needs of elderly, combine the elderly social work practice at home and abroad and the western rural elderly welfare policy and the system, study the social work practice of rural elderly in Western, for the better localization of elderly social work in the west rural areas, and the improvement of elderly welfare. Specific conclusions are as follows:Material consumption aspects:from economic income view, elderly economic income very low, in absolute poverty level, so the most urgent demand for them is economic income service; from the subject whom looked forward to providing financial services by elderly view, elderly also have strong traditional pension thinking which spend more expectations to family and their son; from the concept of material consumption perspective, elderly hope themselves contribute more to families in material, while they require relatively low level for their own material consumption.Life care aspects:from health view, elderly physical condition generally poor but elderly inclined give positive assessment for their physical condition, the objective and subjective needs for medical care is strongly; from the service subject view, the western rural elderly have high hopes for family services features,son (daughter--in--law) remains is the main subject whom expected to take care the elderly by their parents; about social services subject, elderly biased select specialized life care services, some elderly who can not take care of themselves willing purchase life care services; about services forms, elderly demand more urgent on professional social work service, in which on free service greater demand, on paid services demand willingness relatively weak; on demand content, western rural elderly have the strongest demands on the assistance about housework and farm work, especially on housework aid, while for medical services demand relatively more and daily care services relatively small.Spiritual consolation aspects, on the current situation, elderly have been relatively simple way of leisure, and not many of positive way of entertainment and leisure; the family conflicts is a important factors affecting elderly mental condition; elderly hardly participate social interaction and social activities. about demands aspects, communication services demand well while have few communication object, however professional communication service demand less; on the family relations coordination service view, elderly demand less subjective marriage relations coordination service, however in a certain degree of coordination of services, family relations, the objective and subjective needs are relatively strong, while protection of the rights of the objective needs is intense and subjective demand relatively insufficient for the elderly; about elderly social intercourse and recreation and sport service demands, for the factors about the time, physical condition and the degree of understanding social work limit elderly demands on social contacts and recreation and sport services; from on related training demand view, elderly demand strongly about the life care and health knowledge training; from reemployment services demands, although most the elderly reemployment service demands relatively less but elderly who hope reemployment also possession quite proportion.From the senile social work practice view, the social welfare policy of western rural elderly relative lack, its the role of safeguards elderly welfare is relative absence, while social welfare policy is the institutional guarantee, necessary condition and evidence of senile social work establish and development, therefore combining western rural actual situation formulate and improve elderly social welfare policy system is imminent; the establish of senile social work practice system should according to the demand conditions of the western rural elderly, the government, society, families and individuals in its system should play the full role, strengthen government functions, thus promoting the senile social work establishment and development in west countryside; the senile social work running not only should abide the international general, but also combine with the actual situation of our country and western rural areas, so that the senile social work will be localized well in the western region.
