The Application And Research Of Group-work Method In Improving The Staff's Professional Identity

Welfare home, as a special institution of public welfare, is designed to provide refuge for the social vulnerable groups. The Professional identity of the staff in the welfare home is not only related to the staff's health and career development, but also concerned about the human resource management and the service level of the welfare home, and it has more relationship with the physical and mental care of the social vulnerable groups. This article has taken Y social work institute of Jiangxi province as an example. It has carried out a deep investigation into the staff's professional identity in that social welfare home, and the results shows that the staff's professional identity in Y social welfare home is in a tight corner which leads to many problems. So it is important to improve the level of the staff's professional identity, which is an urgent task for the developing of the specializing social work currently. The article aims to find out the identity paths and professional identity mechanism from the identity theory. Fortunately, they can be found from the studies of identity by Freud, Mead, Erickson and Castells. It is found that the staff's professional identity of social welfare home is a compositive result of inside driving force and outside society environment. It is an internalization process of mental and behavior, in which the staff learns and imitates others'value, emotion, attitude, rules and activities as well as welfare home's. And the staff can be conducted to complete the internalization process effectively by two modes which are empathy and Oedipus. The empathic mode develops the professional identity by giving the staff something meaningful, while Oedipus mode by creating competitive situation.Under the instruction of the above theory, the author unearths the factors about "meaningful conferment" and "the competition" of the staff's professional identity of social welfare home. Then the author adopts the ways of group work to give something meaningful to the staff and provide competition for the staff. With the process of group work practice and effective evaluation, it is found that the group work is an effective method with many characters such as diversity, interactivity, interest, community, economy, and homogeneity target clients and so on. It can not only help the staff relax the body and mind by minimum cost, but also can effectively combine the two modes of professional identity by giving something meaningful and providing competition. Besides these, there are some other skills we need to pay attention to, such as how to contact before the group form, when to start, how to respect the group members, how to use one's strength and foil heart-warming atmosphere. Try hard through above, the level of staff's professional identity can be improved.But it is necessary to supplement the efforts that gained by the group work with some other long-effect systems, such as perfecting and strictly enforcing the maching systems, changing the guard in turn, attempting to publicize the professional value of the welfare home. By combining the group work with long-effect system, it can not only develop and improve the professional identity of the staff in the social welfare home effectively, but also can consolidate the effects, so as to bring the welfare for the staff, and the long development for the welfare home, and much more care for the vulnerable groups. The study provides a new perspective of improving the professional identity. At the same time, it also benefits to the construction of the current social work team, and it is in favor of the nativization and professionalization of social work developing.
