Though it is not easy to be adopted in actual situations, "pupil-centered" teaching method is considered as one of the basic ideas of Shanghai's New-Subject Reform. In present primary schools, in Chinese class-room teaching, teachers and pupils are actually partners involving in the same learning activity. If they know well about their pupils, about the learning style of each individual, it is more likely for the teachers to make practical and effective teaching plans and goals which enable both learners and teachers to enjoy the whole process. Only under the above mentioned circumstance, can pupils become the focus of the class-room teaching activity."If teacher-oriented method doesn't do, try the leaner-oriented one." Research findings of modern psychology show that individual differences throughout the whole learning process cover quite a few factors, for example intelligence, character, interest, learning style and motive etc. Learning style, the typical leaning habit and method of each individual is considered as a crucial factor. Detailed information on learning styles will lead to efficient leaning and teaching, will strengthen the interest and motivation of the pupils and help them develop continuously.Basing on the learning style questionnaires (2006) made by Barbara A. Soloman of North Carolina State University, this study made a survey of the five graders from the primary school attached to Eastern China Normal University. The survey which targeted at Chinese reading strategies was conducted for a semester with behavior study as the focus aided by classroom teaching observation. During the experiment, teachers were requested to pay sufficient attention to the different learning styles of each pupil, conduct related teaching on Chinese reading strategies, keep records of matched and mismatched teaching approaches and make improvements accordingly. The findings show that matched approaches help the pupils acquire knowledge efficiently but can not remove their defects in learning method; while the mismatched approaches, if applied consciously and properly, can help the learners improve learning method and develop healthily though may not improve knowledge acquisition. This paper falls into five parts. Partâ… is a brief introduction of the background and significance of the research; Partâ…¡is an explanation of the related theories used in the research; Part III is a survey of learning styles regarding five graders; Part IV is about learner-oriented teaching; Part V is a summary of the whole paper which aims at offering guidance for further studies.
