As the higher education is vigorously developing today, the higher education assessment intending to protect the quality of higher education has become the major concern. According to the past and present development higher education assessment, the practical effect of higher education assessment is far different from the people's expectations, the lack of technical knowledge is an important reason for that. The lack of technical knowledge and experience of higher education assessment is still existing in a form of disorder, some studies have not integrated the widely existing methods and techniques of higher education assessment in theory and practice into an easily understood and operated knowledge system, and there are many problems need to be discussed in the field.This paper focuses on the classification and analysis on assessment methods and techniques of higher education, which is explain respectively from the definition, theoretical basis, characteristics, standard, procedures, advantages and disadvantages, making utility analysis on some assessment methods and techniques of higher education currently used in China. It also offers systematical operating tools for the practice of higher education assessment and takes the assessment methods and techniques of higher education into consideration as a whole, the details are as follows:The paper first classifies the basic problems involved in the assessment methods and techniques of higher education, and also clarifies the concept related to the assessment methods and techniques of higher education. It also discusses the value, nature, functions and other issues, and attempts to classify them.The body part of this paper will describe and analyze the assessment method and technique resources in the higher education respectively from the method and technique assessment of students and their study, the method and technique assessment of teachers and their activity, the method and technique assessment of program review as well as the method and technique assessment of the educational institutions.The conclusion of the paper points out the role of higher education evaluation methods and techniques playing in practice, which not only depends on the assessment methods and techniques, but also depends on the user's understanding selection, operation and use intentions of the methods and techniques. This is a process of discovery and learning. The quality improvement of higher education relies on the conscious effort made by teaching staff only possible process, only when the assessment methods and techniques truly become the school faculty's tools to improve the quality of education, the desired results will be achieved.
